The Brimalm Bulletin

30 October 2009

Many exciting new developments have taken place in our company during 2009. We have invested in new equipment, which will enable us to make casting originals of  still higher quality and to do last wax casting. We  have also invested in several mother tools for precision die casting in zinc.

The Swedish State Railways Class Du electric locomotive is our first model which is wholly designed and manufactured in Sweden. It is now in the state of serial production. Various parts are beeing collected and assorted in preparation for the final assembly work. It´s feels a little like ”a Marklin factory in miniature”. The biggest difference is that we work with smaller batches and that our models consist of parts produced by means of a number of different techniques. The dominating materials are zinc and brass. Plastic is used in brake details to minimize the risk of short circuits. New technology is a common denominator in all these cases, which has meant several high thresholds for us to climb. This development takes its time, but we are convinced that both we and our customers will benefit in the long run from this investment, that will lay a solid foundation for the future and enable coming projects to be finished more quickly and efficiently.

We introduced ”Brimalm Composite” as a special trade mark for models made by combining  various materials and techniques as opposed to the hand-built limited series brass models of ”Brimalm Exclusive”. From now on we are replacing ”Brimalm Composite” with a new, but at the same time old trade mark. The Class Du electric and its followers with instead be marketed under the trade mark ”ASJ”, which stands for ”Aktiebolaget Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna”. Yes, we have managed to secure this historic trade mark from a classic Swedish builder of real trains, which is no longer active in this field.

The work with the old ”Förstlingen”steam loco (a model of the very first steam loco built in Sweden) is progressing and we are currently preparing the prototypes. The exacting job of integrating drive unit and decoder into the design of this very small locomotive is not quite finished yet.

During the last year we have produced a number of industrial exhibition models, some of which are shown under the headline ”Brimalm Exposition”.

We invite you to submit fine model railway photos for enclosure in a calender. To be taken into consideration the picture should contain some Brimalm model or models. We would particularly appreciate photos showing scenes with a genuine atmosphere from fine layouts.

The staff of Brimalm Engineering wishes all of you model railway enthusiasts a fine and creative autumn season with much building and running of trains during the long, dark evenings.

Best regards,

Stellan Brimalm
