Flywheels

The flywheels are divided in two categories:

  • Precision flywheels
    These are CNC turned in one piece and made with very high precision.
  • Modular flywheels
    These present a flexible solution, but must be balanced. They can easily be pressed on to their axle and locked in position with glue.


Precision flywheels

Precision flywheels for mounting in ball bearings and direct coupling to motors with cardan shaft or silicon tube. These flywheels need no balancing.

Modular flywheels

Modular flywheels are pressed on to their axle and locked with some super glue. These flywheels as a rule need balancing, which is done in the following simple manner: Having been mounted and locked on their axle, they are set up in their bearing brackets. Due to the low turning friction in the bearings, the flywheel will turn its heavier side down. Mark the lowest point with a pen and file the wheel ever so slightly flat along its full width at this point. Repeat the procedure until the flywheel, after rotating, doesn´t stop in any particular position. Suitable axles A6 - A7.
