SJ Class Tp narrow gauge diesel locomotive, 1950ies-1960ies version
The prototype: In order to modernize and rationalize traffic on the Swedish narrow gauge lines, the SJ in 1953 ordered a new type of dieselhydraulic locomotive with the class designation Tp. Twentyfive engines were delivered from Aktiebolaget Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna (ASJ) in Falun and Maschienenbau Kiel AG (MaK) in Germany. These engines became something of a standard and allround class with allocations to sheds in Västergötland, Småland, Östergötland and Roslagen. Some technical data:
The model: The Class Tp locomotive is made totally of brass and is delivered only as a ready-to-run model. We have considered offering it in kit form also, but have refrained from this option for the reason that special tools are needed for much of the assembly. Without these tools it would be difficult for our customers to reach the necessary degree of precision. The prototype identities have been chosen in order to represent as wide a geographic spread as possible. With each model signs and decals for the following prototype locomotives are enclosed: Tp Nr. 3500, 3503, 3506, 3508, 3511, 3515, 3516, and 3520. The chassis and drive line is a unique design, developed to give as much operating joy as possible to the driver. A Faulhaber motor drives a heavy flywheel through a centrifugal clutch. The flywheel is directly geared to the jackshaft, from which the power is transmitted to the coupled axles through the authentically linked coupling rods. All wheels are sprung. Current collection is through the coupled wheels. The buffer beams are prepared for mounting Kadee couplings and headlights for mounting miniature light bulbs.
The model is characterized by
Five year technical warranty. The model is currently sold out, but we plan to produce a new batch within the next couple of years. Advance bookings are welcome. |
