Delivery photo: NOHAB 190

The prototype:

Inspired by the Prussian State Railways Class P8 from 1906, a six-coupled general purpose locomotive designated Class B was delivered in 1909. The class proved excellent for all kinds of duties and was used for hauling freight as well as heavy passenger trains. From 1909 to 1919 it was built in 96 examples. The Class B was also used by a number of private railways, among others the BJ, SDJ, SWB and SNJ. As late as 1944 SWB (Stockholm-Västerås-Bergslagens Järnvägar) took delivery of 3 Class B engines, which were later taken over by the SJ. The total number built was thus 99 examples.

The model:

The Brimalm Class B model has been produced in 300 examples, 250 as ready-to-run, factory painted locomotives and 50 in kit form. Of the 250 ready-to-run locomotives, a small special series of 10 have been finished in the original form with chemically treated bluish boiler and cab plating, vacuum brake system and kerosene headlights. The models are delivered in a shock-proof and sturdy box. The enclosed assortment of signs and decals permits the choice of SJ numbers 1081, 1083, 1139, 1150 or 1383 and BJ numbers 129 or 131.

The locomotive is propelled by a flywheel equipped swiss precision motor (Maxon M1331-1) placed in the tender. By means of a telescoping cardan shaft the power is transmitted to a high precision gear box with ball bearings (type SV26) positioned in the firebox. From the middle driving axle the rotation is transmitted to the other coupled axles by the coupling rods. A well-balanced lead weight in the boiler ensures a strong pulling power. The Brimalm drive system is a guarantee of very silent and smooth running.
