Deutsche Reichsbahn Class 18.0, formerly Saxonian State Railways Class XVIII H

New 2000

DRG-Version (1922-49)

Saxonian Version (1918-22)

The prototype:

The german pacific loco class 18.0 was built in only 10 examples by Hartmann in Chemnitz in 1917 for the Saxonian State Railways. All came to the Reichsbahn at the beginning of the 1920ies. The engines were stationed at Dresden Altstadt locomotive shed for most of their existence. Nine of the ten engines survived the Second World War. During the 1950ies they were once more pushed into high rank services by the Reichsbahn of East Germany and remained in service well into the 1960ies. The powerful and harmoniously outlined loco is regarded as a successful design, representing a synthesis of south german and prussian design principles, which was developed further in the standard locomotive classes of the Reichsbahn.
